Description

At Phoenix House, we are reimagining a former Job Centre site in Barking as a new model for shared urban living that supports community, wellbeing and long-term regeneration. Designed as a distinct marker within Barking’s emerging townscape, the scheme brings together 565 co-living homes with over 1,640 sqm of internal amenity and 500 sqm of external shared space, including co-working areas, wellness spaces, communal kitchens, terraces and biodiverse public realm.

Drawing on detailed research into modern living patterns and GLA co-living guidance, we developed a compact and efficient residential model that balances density with quality of life. The architecture responds carefully to its context, stepping down towards surrounding streets while strengthening the local high street through active frontages and greening initiatives. Phoenix House reflects our commitment to designing for people in context, to create a thriving new community for Barking.
